Take a Community College class to satisfy ELWR

Prior to starting at UCSC

UCSC students can take an approved community college course. California community colleges offer many classes during the summer and during the academic year that satisfy the Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR) requirement. See a list of approved classes below.
Students electing to take ELWR requirement English courses during the summer must inform UCSC Admissions. If students change courses from what was listed on their application, they are required to notify the Office of Admissions in writing at admissions@ucsc.edu.
Students must ensure that the college sends official transcripts to UCSC's Office of Admissions. To confirm transcripts have been received, continue to check your student portal at my.ucsc.edu. For further questions regarding transcripts, please contact the Admissions Office.

After starting at UCSC

The Community College courses option is only available prior to beginning at UCSC. Once a student begins enrollment at UCSC, satisfaction of the ELWR requirement will take a different route.
