View News Call for Submissions for the 2009-10 Humanities Don Rothman Writing Award ![]() Purpose:To honor the achievements of one or more first-year students in the genre of nonfiction, academic, analytic writing, and to recognize excellence in writing pedagogy. Award:Up to five students will receive an acknowledgement during a Fall 2010 awards ceremony. Application:Essays should be submitted to the Cowell Academic Services mailbox of Writing Program Lecturer SOE James Wilson. Submissions must include three hard copies of the essay. (Specific submission guidelines to follow.) Guidelines:Essays should demonstrate serious engagement with issues raised in a C1 or C2 class, including the importance and impact of other writers' ideas. Length should be commensurate with the essay's purpose, but no more than 2500 words. Judging:A team of Writing Program faculty will determine the winning submissions, including honorable mentions. Awards Ceremony:If selected for an award, students will be asked to submit a statement of appreciation for faculty whose instruction and encouragement helped foster students' writing success. Faculty will also be recognized, and will be asked for a short letter of support that addresses and illuminates some aspect of writing pedagogy. 2010 Timeline:
