View News Writing Program Lecturer Robin King to receive Excellence in Teaching Award ![]() Writing Program Lecturer Robin King to receive Excellence in Teaching AwardEach year the Academic Senate recognizes a select group of UCSC instructors for teaching that is exemplary and inspiring. Only students may nominate instructors by writing a letter of nomination describing why they feel the instructor deserves to receive the award. To give the selection committee a clear picture of the nominee's teaching, the students are asked to describe the nominee's teaching techniques, what they learned from the instructor, and the instructor's respect for and commitment to students. The Center for Teaching Excellence notifies each faculty member of their nomination and requests a statement of teaching, as well as soliciting letters from department chairs reporting on the nominees' pedagogical effectiveness from the department's point of view. The Academic Senate's Committee on Teaching reviews the student nominations, faculty statements, and department chair letters, then selects award winners. Award Ceremony The faculty winners are publicly honored at the Excellence in Teaching Award Ceremony, held this year on Friday, June 5th. The Chancellor and the Chair of the Committee on Teaching present the Award Winners with award certificates and a check for $500.
