Employment

The Writing Program employs tenured Lecturers with Security of Employment (LSOE), annually-appointed Lecturers, and temporary Pool Lecturers. LSOEs have 100% time positions that involve leadership, teaching, and service responsibilities. Lecturers have minimum 50%-time positions that are established annually. Pool Lecturers fill teaching positions as they become available.

We are currently accepting applications for the following positions:

Applications are accepted throughout the year. Candidates for Pool Lecturer positions may also apply for other positions when such positions are announced.

People interested in teaching for the Writing Program in any capacity should familiarize themselves with UCSC's first-year writing courses, which include classes that satisfy or help students satisfy the C1 and C2 (Composition) General Education requirements. C1 and C2 must be satisfied sequentially. Most students satisfy C1 by taking and passing a residential college Core course (they must also have satisfied the Entry Level Writing Requirement, or ELWR). Most students satisfy C2 by taking and passing Writing 2, Rhetoric and Inquiry. If you are interested in knowing about the individual colleges and their Core courses, you can begin your search here.

Please consult the Educational Objectives of the C Requirement for expectations of composition courses in general and C2 courses in particular (including Writing 2), and the list of Writing 2 courses for brief descriptions of classes the Writing Program is currently offering. Please also read the Writing Program's Grading Policy and Rubric for important policy information.
